The internet today is considered to be the most prevalent way in which people start relationships, after “meeting through friends”. A 2010 Stanford University Sociology study showed that 23% of heterosexual couples and 61% of gay and lesbian couples met online.

This project comprises a series of portraits of couples in Ireland who met online, through either dating websites or social networks. The aim being to show how meeting people through the internet; bridging the gap between online and offline, has lost the stigma it once had.

Originating through a love of connecting with people on a social level through online social networks and forming many important relationships through this medium, this project is a way of showing the way in which many relationships are formed today; whether fleeting or long-lasting.
